I currently have a 2.1 system setup. (Altec Lansing VS - 3121) My mom is wanting to throw away two speakers that came with my PC. However, I would like to "recycle" these speakers and use them for a surround sound setup (4.1) if posslble. So.. any suggestions.. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.......

It may be possible, depends on your sound card/onboard sound.

Can you give details of that?

I wouldnt suggest it

As they might work You will overload the Opamp inside your 2.1 system and after a while it will become faulty

Just buy a new system built for the job they cheap enuff

I was assuming the two spare speakers are powered.

In which case it may be possible to plug them into the rear speaker socket of a 4.1 or even a 5.1 sound card and configure the software.

I expect the current 2.1 setup is powered from an ampifier within the bass enclosure.

So, even if they weren't powered, the small audio amp within the sound card would drive them, and them alone.

Which is why we need to know the sound card/onboard sound details.
