Add/Remove Windows Components Not Working

I am running XP Pro with all the latest SP and
Hotfixes. When I go into Add/Remove Programs in the
Control Panel and select Add/Remove Windows Components,
the configuring Windows Components Wizard starts up right
away, runs its course, and it gets to the Finish screen.
If I press Finish, the Wizzard closes and I am returned
to the Add/Remove Programs screen. This process will
continue over and over each time I select Add/Remove
Windows Components. I have tried restarting the PC many
times, and ensuring the Windows disk is avalible while
the wizzard runs, but no luck. This did not occur after
adding a windows component but rather before I was able
to get to the screen to add a component. I can add or
remove other programs, just not windows components.
Please help!!

In the first Windows Components window, you must check or un-check a
component and then click next for it to do anything other than what you have
described.

Don't even get to first windows component window....no chance to check or
unchech. Don't even see the list of components. Wizard immediatley skips
to finished without any opportunity to check or uncheck selections.
