I try to run the windows update on an xp pro computer, and get a notice that
"your security settings prohibit running active x controls on this page..."
Well, I've done all I know about to ensure they are not turned off (even
cleaned out cache and offline data), yet I continue to get this message.
Another funny thing is that I can't run the windows validation tool to
download the anti-spyware for the same reason. So, I use the alternate
validation method which downloads a program that creates a key that I'm
supposed to then type in the browser. Well, I do that, and then it comes
back and says basically that I have a bootleg copy! I called MS to confirm
that, although the license is a volume license, it is valid.
I figure that maybe updating from sp1 to sp2 would fix stuff, so I
downloaded sp2 and tried to run. No go. Keep getting a little popup that
says, "the system cannot find the file specified." Huh?
What do do?
Oh, don't know if it matters, but they do have a win2k server.
Thanks.
