Active X error, validation, and downloading from Micosoft site

I'm having problems when trying to validate to download from the microsoft
website. It says my validation is incomplete, and I get an error message that
says I have an "Active X error", and that my computer is not configured
properly. I've checked, and all my security zones are set to default levels,
and the WGA validation tool is enabled in my add-ons folder. I've updated my
computer from Microsoft update. I just did a fresh install after a crash, and
office and windows validated just fine. I have Webroot's SpySweeper, and
Norton Systemworks 2006 installed. This problem was occuring on my computer
prior to the crash, though the reason for the crash is unrelated. On the
Validation diagnostics, my computer passes all the tests except the last one:
Active X Controls. I've tried booting with start-ups diabled - no help. When
using some other sites, I do get their message on the info bar to download an
Active X file, but not when working with the Microsoft site. When I try to
download ANY file from the Microsoft site, my browser immediately goes to a "
this webpage cannot be displayed" error. Micosoft Update works just fine, and
I'm using XP Pro.

I really need some help !!

corrupted too. I had a similar problem to this after a repair install a few
