Activating XP PRO (Upgrade) on a new computer

Hello Folks

Recently I installed Win XP Pro (upgrade) on my Pentium2 Win98 operating system. I DID activate the XP program. I now wish to buy a new computer - which only comes with XP Home - however, I wish to install the XP Pro version over the XP Home on my new computer.

My question is: How do I activate the new computer with the XP Pro installed

Do I have to 'de-activate' XP Pro from my old computer first - OR just install the XP Pro on my new computer and then "Activate" it via the web. I did find that if you install a lot of new hardware on your computer, you may have to 're-activate' it - and that you would be provided a phone number on the activation screen

Your assistance is greatly appreciated

Thank you in advance

If activated xp on a computer, that copy of xp will not transfer t
another,if you upgraded old computer to "as new" it's still good,bu
transfering,buy another copy.

Not correct. He bought and installed a Upgrade version, which is a retail
version, not a OEM. OEM versions can't be moved to another computer, but
retail versions can, as long as it is not installed on another computer. The
OP can use his Pro Upgrade on his new computer, but will have to make a
phone activation if it has been less than 120 days since he first installed
it. If it has been more than 120 days then the activation will be done on
the internet an normal.

Formally you should remove it from the old computer (by formatting the
disk) before installing on the new. But go ahead and install on the
new, then once you have files and so on transferred and the new one
running correctly, format the old and then activate. When it comes to
activation, if it is more than 120 days since you last did it, you will
find it will go through on the net just like first time. If not, you
will have to phone a toll-free number that will be given, to explain and
swap one long number for another to check back as you type it in

Greetings --

There is no "unregistration" or "de-activation" process, as such.

Assuming a retail license (OEM licenses are not transferable),
simply remove WinXP from the computer it is currently on, and install
it onto the new one. If it's been more than 120 days since you last
activated that specific Product Key, you'll most likely be able to
activate via the Internet without problem. If it's been less, you
might have to make a 5 minute phone call.

Here are the facts pertaining to activation:
