Changing 64bit for 32bit Windows XP and product key advice.

My brother has XP PRO/SP2 32/64bit version, but his computer only supports
32bit so he installed 32bit and activated it.
I updated my computer and want to use his 64bit XP PRO. I will be trading
him my 32bit XP PRO/SP2 for his 64bit XP PRO/SP2.
After reading the posts here, I think I can change his product key, will he
be able to activate Windows with the new product key from my 32bit cd?
AND, will I be able to install and activate the 64bit Windows on my computer?

What else would we need to do?

There is no such thing as an XP Pro/SP2 32/64bit version of XP. There is XP
Pro x86 and there is XP Pro x64 but they completely different operating
systems. The two are not packaged together and are not sold together.
Product keys for the one are completely incompatible with the other. The
SP2 service packs for each are completely different also. They simply are
not interchangeable.

If you are swapping cds why are you not also simply swapping product keys?

Also, if either of you is running an operating system that came preinstalled
on his computer you may not do the swap since such versions are not
transferrable.

Thanks for the reply. Maybe I didn't explain clearly. I swapped his 64bit
for my 32bit Win XP Pro, product key and all. My concern was that he
installed his Win XP Pro, and when he did, he was told that his computer does
not support 64bit and proceesed to install 32bit Win Xp Pro better known as
x86.

The problem is solved though, I used the KEY UPDATE TOOL to change the
producy key on my brother's computer, rebooted then activated it. I had to
call for activation and the guy told me I was free to use the 64bit on my
computer.
