How To Check if my XP is 64bit or 32bit?

N

niladri

1. How do I check whether my Windows XP Professional installed as 32bit or
64bit. BTW, I customed builed my PC from HP and Windows XP came with it.

2. If there is any way to switch inbetween 32bit and 64bit?

Thanks,
niladri

Did you buy Windows XP x64? Is your hardware 64-bit? If you got this from
HP, it should be listed in your order details. But see
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827218 for more info.
2. If there is any way to switch inbetween 32bit and 64bit?

No, they're different products.

Enter WINVER at the Start | Run line.

No, other than dual-booting between the two (and that only if you have
the 64-bit hardware).

If you have to ask, you don't have 64-bit XP. You can only get that by
specifically ordering it and paying more for specific hardware.

You'd remember the bill.
2. If there is any way to switch inbetween 32bit and 64bit?

You could probably dual-boot.

If you have to ask, you're almost certainly running the 32-bit
version of WinXP. I'm not trying to be facetious; I'm sure you'd have
noticed paying several thousand dollars more for the Itanium or Itanium
II CPU required to run the original 64-bit version of WinXP Pro, or
whether or not you purchased a computer with an AMD Athlon64 or Intel
EM64T CPU. There are, of course, no 64-bit versions of WinXP Home, WinXP
TabletPC, or WinXP MCE. Also, because WinXPx64 is available only as an
OEM license, it doesn't come in a box.

Windows XP 64-Bit Edition Overview
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/64bit/overview.asp

To verify for yourself, Click Start > Run, type in "Winver" and
press <Enter>. If the resulting dialog box does not _explicitly_ state
that you have "Windows XP 64-Bit Edition" or "Windows XP Professional
x64 Edition," then you have a 32-bit OS.

2. If there is any way to switch inbetween 32bit and 64bit?

Only by formatting the hard drive and performing a clean installation
of WinXpx64.
