Up until Sunday my PC been working fine but then it threw a bit of a wobbler
!! - The HD wouldnt boot for some reason , eventually i managed to get the
PC up and runing again without having to do a full install , the problem
which has arised is this.

Its a full genuine OEM version which has been previously activated on this
PC , but after the wobbler its now saying its , not , i cant activate it ,
it wont even bring up the activation screen if i try and a phone call to
Microsoft has been no help at all , because i got the OEM version even
though i was building myself a full new PC and im not a syetm builder , they
are saying they cannot help , anyone got any ideas how to get it activated
again ???

Try the following:
1. Reboot your computer into "Safe Mode".

A description of the Safe Mode Boot options in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315222/en-us

2. Go to Start > Run and type: %systemroot%\system32 then press the Enter
key.
3. Locate these two files: wpa.dbl and wpa.bak
4. Rename the wpa.dbl file to wpaold.dbl and wpa.bak to wpaold.bak
5. Reboot your computer into Normal Mode. This will force activation on the
following boot. Sometimes if those files get corrupted, they can cause this
type of problem.

If the above procedure does not solve the problem, then try:
Guided Help to remove the script that interferes with Windows activation:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/312295/en-us

Thanks , tried that but got a strange message when i re-booted back into
normal

"A problem has prevented Windows from accuratly checking the status of the
license of this computer , to proceed yoour computer must be activate , do
you wish to proceed ?"

When you click on Ok , its breifly shows my wallpaper , then gots to the
Logon screen , even though my logon screen is never used !!!

I tried using the guided help , but that just did exactly the same.

After it all , i tried to do the Activate Windows link in System Tools , and
again nothing happens :-(

If i do a repair install as per this link ,

http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

you think it may work ?? I dont want to do a full install if i can help it
, and dont even know if that could cure the problem
