Activation Problem after new MOBO

I made a custom pc about 2 years ago and installed an OEM version of
XP Professional. Rescently my mobo died and I had to replace it.
When I started it I did a repair install of windows and everything
worked fine and it said I had 3 days to activate windows and when I
clicked activate now the windows activation screen came up but instead
of giving me directions on how to activate it, the screen was a blank
light blue color. When I exited out of it, windows loaded fine. I
restarted and tried again but the same thing happened, so I called
windows. After hours of being on the phone with them and letting them
take control of my pc they restarted the activation counter and now I
cannot even login to windows. They then said that I am going to have
to just do a clean install due to the fact that a week before my mobo
died I installed SP3 which is causing the activation problem. I know
with the OEM version I can only use one mobo, but I was wandering if
there was anyway that I can uninstall the SP3 and repair install so
that I can at least sign into windows? I know I will probably just
have to do a clean install but I was wandering if there was anyway
that I could maybe fix this so that I can move my program settings to
another partition before performing the install? Any help would be
greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any comments.

If the xp cd oem was for another MB,youre lucky to have gone as far as
you did, purchase a legitamite copy of xp for youre pc....Otherwise,at pc
start,tap F8 key,select safe mode,enter xp as administrator,edit.
