Acer Aspire G600P - XP Home

The HDD is making nasty noises, and it seems like it's about to bust. I
was told the complete OS is in directory C:/i386 so we can copy it onto
a CD, but we don't have any boot disc to install from if we need to
replace the Hard Drive. Has anyone else experienced this problem with
the G600P and had to re-install from scratch. Also recommendations for
reliable Hard Drives

Any help is appreciated

You can get a boot disk here

Maxtor or a Seagate, I prefer.
