DVD Not Working on Acer Aspire

Stuart Owen

I've got an Acer Aspire G600p, But the DVD drive that came
with it will work on Windows 98/SE, ME, 2000Pro And XP Pro
But not on XP Home. Has anyone got any ideas why this is.
I've tried the lastest drivers, Ive tried changing file
system from fat 32 to NTFS but still not working, Tried
Disconnecting the CDRW for conflicts but still not working
any ideas.

Need DVD 'cause the kids like to watch their DVDS on the
computer for the online extras

HI,

First, go to device manager and uninstall the DVD and CD/RW then shutdown the machine.
Unplug the AC power cable and then open the chassis.
Set the jumper of the DVD rom as master and the CD/RW as slave. Connect the IDE cable to the DVD rom (the adapter at far end) and CD/RW (the adapter at the middle) and connect the other adapter to the secondary IDE channel of the Mobo.
Connect the 12V power cables to the DVD and CD/RW.
Replug the AC power cable and bootup; windows should fine the new hardwares and install the drivers.
Go to device manager again to ensure the DVD and CD/RW drivers are installed properly.

Hope it helps.

Peter
