Acer Aspire One and USB DVD Boot

NetBookin

Hello,

I just purchased an Acer Aspire One and would like to boot from a DVD to
install a new OS. The Aspire one doesn't have a CD/DVD drive. Which model of
external USB DVD burner can I get that isn't too expensive that will allow me
to boot from it. Here are some of the numerous drives I have found but cannot
figure out if I can boot from them. Help, please! Thank you for your help!!

What OS came preinstalled on the machine? Are you willing to void your
Warranty and any Service Contracts? (Why would you purchase a machine w/out
a CD/DVD drive?)

It's correct that the Aspire One does not include an optical drive and it
isn't because it's a notebook, it's because it's an optional extra add-on
and that goes for both the 8.9" and 10.1" model series as shown at the links
on this page.

You should contact either the place you purchased the notebook or Acer to
find out if you can install an internal optical drive.

You don't necessarily need an optical drive to install a new OS. If you have
a USB external hard drive copy the whole OS DVD/CD over to it.

By the way... it is also possible to install XP from a USB flash drive. The
process has a few extra steps but it can be done, I did it.

It's actually not an option for my laptop and besides the point. I just was
hoping someone may know if one of these external DVD drives are bootable.
They may all be bootable, I don't know. I have seen forums with people who
have installed 7 on these laptops and would have to do so with an external
DVD drive. I have not got a response yet back from those forums so posted
here as well. If anyone can share their experience of using any of these USB
DVD drives I listed, to boot from, or can recommend a different one that they
use, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

If you've posted to the aspireoneuser.com forums, then it's best to
pursue the matter there. They are excellent forums and those users
actually *use* *your* brand/series/model of machine.

*This* group is of course perfectly OK for *general* XP matters.
