USB DVD burner

I purchased a LaCie d2 Dual Layer DVD-R/RW Lightscribe drive as an external
burner for my laptop back in January, and it ran great, then I bought a new
PC and no longer needed it so I gave it to my brother to use with his laptop,
Yesterday I tried to connect the burner to my computer via USB and when that
failed via Firewire. Both times my computer failed to even register that I
had connected a new device, please advise.

P.S. I am using an Acer Aspire pc with 2gb of Ram an AMD64 Processor and an
Nvidia GeForce 7900 GS OC graphics card, I am running Windows Vista Home Basic

Also I have tried connecting other devices such as my MP3 player and they all
work fine, the power on the DVD burner turns on and the disc tray can eject
and retract, and I have tried different USB ports and cables

NormanP51,

when the LaCie burner worked back in January, was it working on Vista? When
your brother was using this burner, was he using it with Vista? This is
important to know, because the drive may not be compatible with Vista. Is
the drive in the Vista compatibility list? Just something to consider,
because we don't know the answer.
