Acer Recovery

Steve

I've got an Acer Aspire 3053 running windows XP Home.

There is a partion D which contains the recovery software and is installed
using the Acer E-Recovery Management. The default password is normally 6
zero's however an friend changed it and now neither of us can remember what
it was....

Acer Support said we would have to purchase a recovery DVD at the cost of
£80.

Is there any other way past this?

The program runs from alt f10 at boot so I wouldn't expect any password to
be in registry. Any ideas where the password might be any whether it's
possible to delete/reset it to default?

TIA

Steve

My guess is the BIOS.
Check your manual and/or contact Acer for BIOS information.

Restore from the recovery CD/DVDs you were prompted to make the first time
you started up the computer.

a lot of the software can
be downloaded at the acer website.

if your windows is crashing you might
be able to run winnt32.exe from the i386
folder. i think the repair o.s. option is provided
after the product key screen, but you should
confirm this with the acer people....

Using admin tools and then computer management and the disk management
option I can see that the one hard drive is partioned into three.

One partion has a label Acer:( C:) the other Data (D:)

The third partion is labelled ACERDATA but has no logical drive label.

Any ideas how this might be accessed?

TIA

Press Alt-F10 at bootup. Since your friend set a password which you don't
know and you didn't create the set of recovery media when prompted you'll
have to contact Acer. You need to find out if you can reset the password or
get a set of recovery media from Acer. Only Acer can supply both.
