XP won't boot

I am running XP on an Acer Aspire ASE-360 desktop. I can only boot up in
Safe Mode. When I try to boot normally, it will go through the XP startup
screen and then the screen blanks for a second as normal. The green "acer"
screen appears and it freezes there. The only way to go anywhere from there
is to power down with the power button and start the boot process again.
I've tried all the steps in the Help files with the exception of reloading
Windows. I don't have a Windows XP disk, just the recovery CD's made after I
purchased the computer.

Is there a way to load one file at a time during the boot process to see
which file is not loading correctly?

Please help!

Have you tried a System Restore from Safe Mode? Go to Start>All
Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore. Follow the Instructions.

Run Msconfig and in the Services Tab put a check mark on "Hide All
Microsft Services" then disable all the remaining non Microsoft services
and try to boot normally again.

I suggest you check the following by running MSCONFIG.

Start button > RUN > MSCONFIG

Click on the tab "BOOT.INI"
Make very sure the checkbox "SAFEBOOT" is NOT checked.

If you have to make changes, make sure to apply and press OK and restart
system.
Let us know what you find.

If still no joy,
When the pc is booting up (or if you restart the pc),
Tap F8 Function key to get Advanced bootup options. Tap & keep repeat
tapping F8 !

You will see "Disable automatic restart on system failure" as an option .
Select that.
Then next, try Windows in usual (normal) mode.

A lot of times a "freeze" turns out to be a need for the system to restart
because of a problem and the problem keeps repeating.
My clearing the "restart on failure" you will get a STOP error with a series
of numbers. Those are handy for diagnosis.
So if that happens, right down all the codes and the text description and
post that back here.
