Account logs on > thrown back to logon screen.

Whichever account is used to try to logon, passworded or not passworded, xp
immediately throws you back to the logon screen without any errors.

I remember fixing this problem once before manually using recovery console
by recopying some files but I cannot remember how to do it

I have searched high and low for the article I once used before to fix this
problem but can no longer find it.

Please can anyone provide a link to the info regarding how to fix this
problem.
