Accidentally deleted ATI and possibly VGA (?)

A friend was using my computer earlier today and deleted a couple of files in
Add/Remove Programs. She thought that she was deleting AIM, but now she isn't
sure because when she restarted the computer, folders she opened appeared to
move in a "wave" motion to each side of the screen. Thinking that this may be
a virus, she put through Norton Anti Virus, which came out clear.

By the time I got to the computer, I realised that the text was larger than
normal, and the system seemed quite basic. My internet connection is also
running very slow. I am guessing that this means my computer is in Safe Mode,
but I am not sure how to get out of Safe Mode with Windows XP Home Edition. I
have restarted several times, and I have also tried a System Restore for
several different dates, none of which restore my computer.
---
I found out that my friend must have accidentally deleted ATI from my
laptop, and I'm not sure what this all means, but possibly also VGA (whatever
that may be). How do I go about fixing this problem and what does this mean
to my laptop? Is it possible to solve this without going to a technician?
Please help. Thank you.

I'm guessing you mean the drivers got deleted. Go to ATI's website
(http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html) and download the appropriate
drivers. Just click through the menus and the one you need will show up.

Check the documentation (or the laptop vendor's web site) if you are unsure
of what video card or built-in video chipset you have.
Then go to the ATI web site and download the latest drivers for you video
card.
