Accessing files slow

G

Gary

Hi all,

I have a Windows XP computer with 4GB RAM. This computer accesses a
number of network shares through mapped drives. When using My Computer
to browse these drives the computer is very slow, often freezing for
periods of time before becoming available again. If I browse these
drives through a program File open menu then everything is pretty much
instant and has no problems.

Can anyone suggest a reason why this would be?

Thanks.

The problem is likely that you've got disconnected / timed-out network
connections.

If you type
net use
in a command prompt, what do you see?

What are you connecting to? Are you on a domain?
