Slow Network Neighborhood browsing.

Hello. I have a particular user on my Server 2003 network domain whose laptop
(Windows XP) browses Network Neighborhood very, very slowly. This particular
laptop is about a year old and otherwise a very fast machine. The computer
is completely up-to-date with Windows Updates.

In a seemingly related matter, this particular user has trouble connecting
to a couple of network Share drives that everyone else can get to with no
problem. But, they can connect fine to other network Share drives.

Any help that can be offered to figure these problems of slow Network
Neighborhood browsing and inability to connect to certain Share drives would
be very much appreciated.

Thank You. J

Clarification: I meant "My Network Places"/"Entire Network" browsing is
slow. Not "Network Neighborhood" as stated in my original email. Thanks. J

I have the same kind of experience with a little light on the subject maybe.

I have a Pentium 4 - 3.2GHz machine, 512 Megs of Ram and gigabit ethernet on
a local area network with a couple of servers and another dedicated video
computer. Whenever I connect to any of the computers over the network to
browse files it takes quite a while before it loads. It can take 4 minutes
or longer to browse to a file that's nested 3 folders deep because it takes a
minute or more everytime I click something in either the explorer window
(over the network) or My Network Places windows.

However, if I open the Task Manager and kill the LOCATOR.EXE process,
everything speeds up incredibly. I don't know if it's even faster than it
was before, or if it just seems that way because it's so incredibly slow
while the process is running, but LOCATOR.EXE is listed as a file that comes
with Windows, but evidently something is wrong with it, how can it be
restored to it's original state without reformatting my computer? I've run
CHKDSK /F and SFC /SCANNOW and it hasn't helped noticeably.
