Access share on win2003 from xp pro sp2

Hi

I have a really strange problem with accessing a network share on a
win2003 server.

The server has 3 network shares i.e. \\server\1 \\server\2 and \\server
\3 All three shares has the same permissions. I can access 1 and 2 but
not 3. I was able to connect to all 3 of them for just a week ago but
now I cant connect to share 3. I am running xp pro sp2.

If I log in onto another xp pro sp2 with the same account, I can
access all 3 shares so it isn't a permissions problem.

It seems like the share is blocked on my laptop. Is this possible?
Anyone got a clue?

Regards
Mikael

1. Click Start / Run / cmd {OK} on your laptop.
2. Type this command:
net use Q: \\server\3 {Enter}
Report what you see on the screen.

Hi

I am running a non-english version of xp and I dont know the exact
phrase, but it succeeds and creates a drive with the letter v:\. When
I try to open that in explorer I get "Access denied".

If I try to do the same from another computer I have access.

I can also access the files \\server\c$\3\.

Thank you for your help!

It seems you have a permissions problem. The logon account
you use on the laptop is not the same as the one on the desktop,
which is why you have no problem with your other machines.
There could be several causes for the problem:
- This account is not defined on the server, or
- Its password is not the same as on the server, or
- It is not included in the NTFS permissions for the server folder
that the share is linked to.

There is some inconsistency in your reporting. In your first
post you said you were denied access to
\\server\3
where as now you say it is
\\server\c$\3
This makes a big difference! You should create proper
shares instead of relying on the administrative shares
C$ or D$.

I am getting a very similar issue only this time with shared network printers
on a Win2K3 server.

When attempting to connect to a network printer from an XPsp2 client, I
randomly get "Access is Denied" errors. This problem is sporadic, and if I
use a different client but with the same user account, I am able to access
the shared network printer.

On the client exhibiting the problem, if we wait a little while, the error
clears and we are again able to access the printer.

Please help, as this problem due to it's sheer intermittent nature is
driving me mad. :-(

Sorry, I have never experienced an issue like this one. I would
start by examining the server's event logger in detail.

Thanks for the response.

Unfortunately, the event log is not really pinpointing this issue. Because
it is a large print server all you see on the server side is print
notifications. I am still investigating logs from the clients, so not in a
position to say if this will shed any light.
