Access "my documents"

My PC broke down. (XP pro). Had a password to log on my account (user). Have
connected the Hard Disc via USB to new PC. I can access everything apart from
the folder containing my documents. Is there a way to get around this? I have
both username & password - but in this case that does not help. I am
administrator. My old PC had XP pro - the new XP Home. May that be the reason?

Thank you for helping - I tried this helpful link, but since I have the XP
Home edition, I must start my PC in Safe Mode (to get up safety alternative).
But alas - in Safe Mode the PC does not see my external HD! This applies when
using USB and FireWire. So there I am.
I might install this HD as slave into my new PC- but since this new PC has
Serial ATA, and the old HD is IDE, I am not sure if I can?

Anyone who knows if I can connect an IDE HD as a slave to a Serial ATA HD?

Thanks
