Access is denied

My laptop (XP Home, SP2, fully patched) died - cannot even reach BIOS
settings. I removed the hard drive and connected it via USB to a new laptop.
I can read and copy everything EXCEPT:
C:\Documents and Settings\Dave
which is the main account (with Administrator privilege and password
protected).
I can open all the other (also password protected, but Limited, not
Administrator) accounts. When I try to open Dave, Windows responds:
G:\Documents and Settings\Dave is not accessible.
Access is denied.
Properties for Dave reports that it contains 0 folders and 0 files.

I created an account Dave with the same password as on the original
computer, and still could not access this directory.

How can I access my data without the original laptop's (RIP) BIOS?

Anysuggestions are much appreciated. Dave

BIOS has nothing to do with Windows.

HOW TO: Take Ownership of a File or Folder in Windows XP

However, if Dave reports that it contains 0 folders and 0 files, you're not
gonna find much.

Thank you for the suggestion.

The KnowledgeBase article you pointed me to was interesting, but did not fix
the problem. I turned off Simple File Sharing (the current laptop runs XP
PRO). This added a Security tab oto each folder, including the Dave folder.
That tab showed all permissions already Allowed. Attempts to open the folder
continue to trigger the warning

G:\Documents and Settings\Dave is not accessible.
When it last ran, this folder contained thousands of folders and 30GB of data.

Any other suggestions? Thanks again. --Dave

First decide whether it is..
G:\Documents and Settings\Dave
or
C:\Documents and Settings\Dave
