ability to fax

S

SCOTT

I WAS ABLE TO FAX SUCCESSFULLY WHEN I HAD EARLIER VERSIONS
OF WINDOWS AND OF WIN FAX PRO. I CANNOT MAKE IT WORK NOW.
HOW DO I USE THE WINDOWS FAX SYSTEM - I CAN'T EVEN FIND IT.

There is no external installation needed for Fax in W2k. All fax files will
be present in %windir%\system32 and Fax service start type is "Manual". When
you attach a fax modem, windows 2000 detects it and installs Fax service and
fax printer.

Following shortcuts will be added in Programs->Accessories->
Communications->Fax

a.. Fax Queue
b.. Fax Service Management
c.. My Faxes
d.. Send Cover page

Start the Fax service "net start fax" to use Fax.

Hope this will help.

Dear Shyamah,

I read the suggestion that you had posted on the Microsoft
News Group for Fax. I also had the similar problem as
Scott had reported. I ran the net start fax and resulted
the following error in DOS prompt:
The Fax Service service could not be started.
The service did not report an error.
The system I ran this has a Dishnet DSL connection with a
USB modem. I request you to draft basic information on how
to make one of my Widows 2000 Server to send/receive fax
with the help of a phone connection.

Fax functionality requires that you have a analog fax modem installed on the
system. Fax cannot use a DSL modem. You can however use any internet based
faxing solution with your DSL connection.

With some DSL connections you can obtain a DSL line filter suitable for
connecting a standard analog voice line to the DSL line and can then connect
an analog fax modem to that line.

There is a all in one FAQ related to "print and fax" posted on this
newsgroup on "Saturday, August 16, 2003 2:49 AM". You can find more details
there.

Hope this was useful.
