It's called Quicktabs - and I posted about that to this very thread 4 DAYS
ago.....

but you need to open the web pages first (nice IE7 feature that you can open
multiple pages at once) and restricted to a dozen or so - i have folders
with 100's links (were thumbnails on IE6) so it's not a realistic
alternative

if you never used it you won't miss it - i discovered it by totally
accident - opened my favorites folder in windows (something that i never do)
x set it to thumbnail view (all my windows are set to 'detail view') x went
to make a cup of coffee, came back to find the whole window was populated
with thumbnails of web pages & i've been using it as 'a feature' ever
since - so i miss it

Ah. You used Windows Explorer to access your Favorites folder, and set the
file view to Thumbnails. I wonder if that action was a potential security
hole which was plugged in MSIE7? Else MSFT is trying to divorce MSIE7 from
the OS in order to avoid further anti trust action by the U.S. government,
or to comply with restrictions the E.U. would impose upon them to continue
shipping to European nations. Or all of the above.

Norman,

You have forced me to read the whole thread. ; )
Now I remember seeing in NT4 + WDU the feature that Jethro (OP)
wants. Do you have W2K too? If so, I suspect you may have to enable
its Active Desktop option or do some other tweaking to see those thumbnails.

FWIW I thought WDU was great but it was really two main features in one.
The so-called Active Desktop component that it was commonly known as
was the least interesting thing about it. The best thing about it IMO was its
Shell enhancements and that I suspect is what provided the thumbnail view.

According to the first article the feature did once apply to W2K Pro.
Perhaps it just has to be enabled correctly?

FWIW I have never used W2K.

FYI
