A letter is locked into opening of Word. How do I delete?

A letter to an individual is now locked into my Word program. I think it is
a template problem. I have to go to a new page to get to a clean page, but
the letter always comes up when I open Word. Any suggestions on how to get
rid of it so I default to a clean sheet without the letter.
