can not delete text on a new page i have opened

I have written a letter using Word 2002 and saved it. Now when i open up a
Word i still get the same letter showing. To type a new letter i have to
highlight the text and then delete it so i can write a new letter.

Can anyone please tell me how to over come this promblem so i have a clean
sheet to start on wheen i open a new Word page?
