on opening Word, a form opens, not a blank page

when I open Word, an old document opens up instead of a blank page. I've
tried to delete this, but the program always opens with an old letter that I
did a few months ago. I tried to delete this, but always opens up with this
document. Isn't there some sort of default setting that could take care of
this? Thanks.
