Opening a new blank document-it's not blank-it's an old document

When I open up a new blank document in word it's not blank. It's an old
document that I created earlier. Doesn't matter how I open it. I click on
new, blank, and up pops the same blank document, but it's not blank! It's
like this document is now my default. How do I get a blank document?
