Hello - I am having quite a time dealing with a strange problem:

When I log into private, home Windows 2000 Pro machine with SP4 & all
updates, the system will just pause for 60 seconds after logon. Then the
desktop comes up perfectly. No events in the event log, no startup programs,
not HLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CCS\Run issues.

Usually I'm a firecracker at finding the error and working it out, but
without an event log, I'm sunk. The system is a P4, was never a part of a
domain, had SP4 reinstalled, a Repair installation of Windows 2000 from the
CD installed.

What a pain! No errors, but it will drive you mad waiting for the startup
screen knowing you are waiting 60 seconds for nothing!

Has it got a network card?

If so have you trieddisabling it to see if it helps?

I will try that - I did remove/reinstall TCP/IP - and I would personally
like to completely remove the thing - I will try the disabling in the BIOS
and/or OS and let anyone who is interested know what happens. I need my
event log...

I had a similar problem, see if this helps you out any. For me, it was a DNS issue. I had my T1 provider's DNS server address as the primary and that caused every Win2000 / WinXP machine to hang for minute(s) before it would 'apply personal settings.

To resolve this, I installed a DNS server on the same subnet that the Win2000 / WinXP machines were and set them all to read it as the primary. Viola! Problem solved

Hope that help

Thanks - I'll have to try that. This is a stand alone computer with a cable
modem, but I can verify the primary and secondary DNS servers are legit.
