Long unlock delay

Richard B. Hall

When I lock my Windows 2000 Prof. (SP4) computer to be
away from my desk, and then return and unlock and log back
in again, there is a delay of about 60 sec. during which
only the wallpaper and mouse arrow are visible(mouse arrow
works properly). The normal task bar and desktop return to
visibility after the 60 sec. delay.

I have had this problem before - the techs just reload my
OS and it takes a day or two to get my computer back to
normal operations with all the installs I have to go
through with applications again.

This has not happened to me in several months now, but it
started happening again earlier this week, after 10/6/03.

If I know what happens when I unlock Windows 2000 and log
back in, perhaps I can narrow down what is happening and
fix the problem. Thanks.

Try monitoring your memory usage. Perhaps there isnt
enough based on the applications you are running on the
system?

How long have you configure your power options to put your system into
standby mode? Maybe your drives are powered down and it takes a bit for
them to spin back up to speed along with waiting for a reset on all
other devices and waiting for them to acknowledge when they are ready.
