304-keyboard error

I have Windows XP Professional Installed on my Compaq presario 3200M desktop
system. Now whenever I start the system
when Compaq logo comes there is an error is displayed as "304 keyboard or
system unit error". also my keyboard is not in the
On state or there are no lights in the keyboard. also whenever I open the
event viewer, there is an error which is displayed as

ACPI BIOS error - ACPI BIOS is attempting to read from an illegal IO Port
address (0x75) which lies in the 0x74-0x76 protected address
range. This could lead to system instability

Also In the device manager, whenever I open the keyboard tab, the driver
associated with the keyboard
i.e HID Keyboard device is working properly, but whenver I click on the
hidden devices, it shows another
device named as "standard 101/102- key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard"
- This Device is not working
and shows as code -22 error. I have disabled it and tried to uninstall it
also from the system. It remains disabled
But is not removed from the system
What
should I do to remove this error, as I could not even enter
the BIOS by pressing F10 or F1 key.

Hi,

You need to contact Compaq for a BIOS update. Was WinXP originally supplied
with this system?

You didn't say it, but you hinted it: you've got a USB keyboard, right?

So the bios isn't recognizing the USB keyboard, and it IS recognizing that
the PS2 keyboard doesn't exist.

And windows is properly identifying the USB keyboard, and is recognizing a
problem with the PS2 that the BIOS says is there..

So what you need to do is borrow a PS2 keyboard so you can get into the bios
and make sure that USB legacy support is enabled so the bios will see and
use the USB keyboard.

That should fix it. If Windows persists in having the error about the PS2
keyboard, you can poke around the bios to see if there's some way to disable
it , but that's probably not a good idea, just so you have the option if
your USB keyboard dies. You can go into the device manager and disable it
there, rather than letting it have the error message, if you like that
better. I don't know if it makes any difference as far as the computer is
concerned.
