2 versions of MSN Messenger...

Somehow I have two versions of MSN Messenger in my PC.
Now and again I've noticed a message along the lines of "...you've been
signed out of ???? because I've been signed in or out at another
location...."
....anyway today I got the v4.7.3000 MSN Messenger opening screen, on screen,
and two MSN Messenger icons in my system tray, one for 4.7 and one for
6.2.0137

There 's only one MSN Messenger listed in Add/Remove programs in Control
Panel - the 6.2 version.

I think the older one is being invoked when I use OE

....how do I remove the older one without breaking something ?

....any thoughts you have would be muchly appreciated.

Thanx Venkatesh

I'm sure that I used Doug Knoxs *.vbs script a long time ago to strip out
MSN Messenger, just after installing XP Hom ed. ....on 26th January 2004.
Then, a few weeks later I downloaded and installed v6.2 from MS

Perhaps my memory is playing tricks on me, and I never did that on my PC
....perhaps it was someone elses ! Anyway, I've uninstalled 6.2 , ran the
*.vbs script and rebooted, so now both versions seem to be gone. I'll
reinstall 6.2 ..perhaps !

One is "Windows Messenger" which you upgraded to 4.7.3000 when you installed
SP2, and comes with XP

The other is MSN messenger which you install separately

Could uncheck "Automatically log onto Windows Messenger" in Tools > Options
General Tab to stop Windows Messenger starting up in Outlook Express

Thanx Jon, tried that ...was already unchecked.. ttried checking / apply
/okaying out ...uncheck | apply | OK etc. didn't work.

Have since uninstalled 6.2, removed 4.7 with Doug Knox's script.

....I was wondering how 4.7 got back in there / was sure that I'd removed it
a long time ago !
