Windows XP Home hang when using MSN Messenger

I had bought a new laptop NEC Versa E3100 in 6 month ago. After
purchase I upgrade the OS (FreeDos) with a Windows XP Home Edition. I
am using the laptop mainly for surfing internet, post article in forum
and chatting. First of 1 or 2 week I am using Skype and yahoo
messenger without any problem. After that I install MSN Messenger 7.0
and later upgrade to MSN Live Messenger a problem occurs.

My Laptop will hang without any display (Sometime is white color,
sometime is blue color) when I am using MSN Messenger for few minute.
I am force to be push switch off button to restart my laptop. This
problem occurs with both old version of MSN Messenger and latest
version of MSN Messenger.

I had checked the Event Viewer after my laptop hang but nothing
special inside there. I had tried reinstalling the MSN Messenger, re-
formatting my hard disc but the problem still remains.

I had email NEC support engineer for support. I follow their
instruction. They instruct me keep tapping F2 while booting up to get
into BIOS screen. After that, leave it there to see whether the
problem occur in there or not.
I had left my laptop operated in BIOS screen for 10 hours. That's
nothing happened! I had
Email them again but until now they no reply my mail.

I know the simple way to solve this problem is to uninstall the MSN
Messenger. But, I want to know to root cause of this problem.
Anybody meet this problem before and how to solve it ?
Please kindly advice.

Thank

Hi Mee,

A quick Google search suggests that it might be a problem with your router.
You might want to try restarting your router, or upgrading the firmware on
it. If it's an old router, you might want to get a newer one.

You might also try disabling / uninstalling AVG ... not sure if that has
anything to do with it, but there may be a conflict there.

Also, I noticed that you have a 512 MB and 256 MB RAM config. Try using
just the 512 MB. Also, you may want to run diagnostics on the RAM.

Other things to try:

* Update all your drivers to the latest versions
* Update your JRE, Flash and Shockwave players

Best Wishes,
Kurosh
