I am re-installing XP Pro (clean) and when I boot with
the cd, it copies some files and then begins copying
files to the hard drive. I get 17% done and it freezes.

I have ran chkdsk /r twice and re-formatted several
times. But, it never fails... 17% and it freezes.

PLEASE HELP!!

Thank you in advance for all of your help!

I do not know the whole situation, but I had a quite similar problem. In my case the Windows XP install freezed on ~10-20% and I found out that it was a hardware conflict, after exchanging the graphic card all went ok. So if You are installing XP on a brand new machine than it might be the case. Otherwise, I do not know ;)

Your hard drive or RAM may be faulty. Test the RAM with Memtest86
(www.memtest86.com) and the hard drive with a diagnostic utility from
the drive mftr.
