16 bit Windows subsystem failure

After installing service pack2 to my original XP Pro, I am having problems
running some software and programs. I am gettin the message :
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT
tHE SYSTEM FILE IS NOT SUITABLE FOR RUNNING MS-DOS AND MICROSOFT WINDOWS
APPLICATIONS. Can someone help me resolve this problem ?
