I have went through and disabled the revocation of
certificate as suggested via the update trouble shooter, I
also deleted all files EXCEPT for "iuhist.xml" within the
V4 folder. Rebooted the system and still get the same
error.

Some resolution to this issue will be appreciated.

I posted a message a few weeks ago that my WindowsUpdate no longer
worked. I came up with these error messages that are posted here. I
even believe some people from Microsoft tried to get in on the action
and included a huge list of steps that we should follow to track down
the problem. NOne of these worked. Since then, I was able to fix the
issue myself and I never posted what I had found. WEll I am now.

The reason I was getting these errors was because I enabled the triple
des encyption. To see if you have this set, go to Control Panel ->
administrative tools -> Local Security Policy. under that, select
Security Options, and then on the right hand side look for SYSTEM
Cryptography and make sure it is DISABLED. Apply and close. Your
windows update will now work correctly.

I find is highly unusual that on that gigantic list of steps to try
from Microsoft to diagnose this problem - this was not mentioned.
Maybe I should be working for Microsoft instead.

Anyway, if this helps one person then it was worth it to post this.

The closest thing that I see to what you are refering to
within Security Options are the following:

Secure Channel: Digitally encrypt or sign secure channel
data (always)

Secure Channel: Digially encrypt secure channel data
(whenever possible)

Secure Channel: Digitally sign secure channel data
(whenever possible)

The first one of the 3 is disabled and the other 2 are
enabled. I checked these same 3 settings on another
system which Windows Update does work on, and it does have
the same 3 exact settings as expected.

I currently only have administrative on the client side of
the system, not the server side, but even if the server
side policies were set, you would think that it would not
differentiate between the different systems within the
same server/domain environment and using the same login
username and password.

I now have 2 systems with the same error message. The only thing that I can
think of that is different from the other systems that I have ran updates on
lately, the 2 systems that I'm having issues with, they don't get updated
near as often. Not exactly sure when these 2 systems were last successfully
updated, but it was 4 or 6 months ago as I did major updates on a lot of
systems in July and September of 2003. The July one was due to the fact
that we had a major internal system change taking place, thus every single
system had to be touched, and in September, it dealt with someone bringing a
virus into our network system via their laptop computer, whichin effect
bypassed our firewall.

I have the same problems with the same settings. Hope someone at Microsoft
can sort this out.

After a while, I thought about checking into the objects that's stored in
IE. I found on one system that had the issue, there were 2 Windows Update
objects in it and on the other system that had the issue, there was 1
Windows Update object in it. Anyhow, Here's what I did.

In addition to deleting temp IE files and cookies, I also removed the
object(s) via the following steps:

Tools>Internet Options
General Tab
Click on "Settings..."
Click on "View Objects..."
Right click on each object, and locate the ones that has windows update in
them, then remove those objects specifically and any other object that is
damaged. Remove by right clicking, and click on "Remove".

Note, all 3 of these tasks had to be performed in my case to resolve the
issue as Windows Update is now working properly.
Delete Temp IE files
Delete Cookies
Remove Windows Update Object(s)
