Who wants to DL the PL2005 ISO

Wedgie

Hi Wedgie,

You have to use HJSplit to verify the checksum. Are you doing that?

There's some info about verification here:

http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/2005/2005PL-CD-about.php

Susan

Hi Susan,

I've managed to get the hj-split checksum to match on Steven's copy
(Ashlyn's and Maxim's boyth failed so I've deleted those), but the md5
sig won't match:

I'm beginning to wonder about the dvdsig.md5 file - some of the files
are there - they just don't have the _ in the path names on the CD (eg
files\1\40tude_Dialog\4d2b37.exe described in the md5 is actually in
the files\1\40tude Dialog\4d2b37.exe directory on the CD), others are
not there - the Google Toolbar is definitely not on the CD, no matter
what the md5 file thinks. Could it be whoever generated the md5 file
simply screwed up? Maybe they had a super special version of the CD
that had everything on it, generated the md5 file from it, then
deleted some of the files from the general release CD (but didn't
realise that the md5 wouldn't match anymore)? It doesn't explain why
the php files don't match though :-( The files are on the CD, they
just apparently don't match what is in the md5 file.

That would be me....... (and yep, somethings telling me I have done
somewhere).

Basically the way I did it originally was;

1. Download + organize the files
2. Create the MD5 file
3. Create the ISO
4. Ran HJ-Split to split the ISO
5. Ran HJ-Split to create the checksum
6. Burn the CD
7. Overwrite the MD5 created in #2 with a new one (without the underscores)

Something tells me the overwrite didn't happen properly (though it verified
perfectly when I ran it, so can't understand whats going on now).

For those that were downloading from me, some kind soul decided to crash the
FTP server (which somehow, also disconnected me from the net) when I was at
work...... (just got back a few mins ago). I've re-connected and put the
server back online.

Apologies for any inconvenience.

I get exactly the same result running dvdsig.exe. iso downloaded from
Steven's ftp server.

I agree with that. Ignore the dvdsig.md5 verification. Check against
this info:

(root) SUBTOTAL = 142278 bytes 11 files
2005 dir. SUBTOTAL = 743,624 bytes 20 files, 0 folders
acf dir. SUBTOTAL = 11,636 bytes 2 files, 0 folders
files dir. SUBTOTAL = 599,660,357 bytes 327 files, 195 folders

If you have a copy of the CD and those numbers match it should be good.

More info to follow.

My CD came late yesterday afternoon. The dvdsig.md5 file did not verify.

I conferred with Mark Warner and Ashlyn and got some info from them.

The web pages check. The files are all present and accounted for. The
names (files and subdirectories) are correct. It looks to me as if the
dvdsig.md5 file was created before the last few changes.

I've uploaded a file list with *all* the files on the CD and the *size*
of *each* file:

http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/ftp/2005PL-CD-All-Files.txt
2005PL-CD-All-Files.txt 21-Jan-2005 05:58 14k

The bottom line as it looks from here:

If the HJSplit checksum is good you have a good download.
If the file sizes check you have a good CD.

That's some good news :) The hj-split checksum does match, and I have
just checked the file sizes and they match as well. So, it looks as
though I do have a good copy finally. Thanks for the help Susan,
Steven, Ashlyn and jo! :)

Hi Wedgie,

Thank you for the feedback/confirmation. ISTM we'll be able to pinpoint
the cause of any further problems with the downloads more easily now.

This one was a bit of a bear. . .

I used Karen's Directory Printer to get file lists for comparison. It
"lost" a few files - they simply weren't listed. For a while I thought
six files hadn't been included on the CD - then I looked and there they
were. Steven's list - aka the list on the CD - *is* accurate (made with
a program he wrote).

Ashlyn's site has the ISO now. :) :) :) The third and fourth sites should
be coming soon.

None of the sites can handle unlimited downloads. This list is for
requests to download the PL2005 CD's ISO.

This info applies to Ashlyn and Steven's sites - the ones that are online
now. (The other sites may wish to do things differently.) The hosting site
will email you when a slot is available. Please send a return email when
your download is complete.

Same drill as the thread for requesting CD's - post your:

FYI - Steven's site is in the UK - others are in the USA - the [Country]
info *may* get you the download that's closest to you.

(more then triple the speed)
