urls and shortcuts are launching two versions of my browser

If I click on a url in news posts or emails, or a shortcut on my
quicklaunch or desktop, I get TWO instances of my browser opening. If
the browser is already open, the links simply open a new tab as expected
but if it is NOT open then I get two browser windows. (Firefox is
default browser, Win XP Home, user account)
I've also posted to a mozilla group with the same question.
Many thanks.

Solved - it was a setting in Internet Options Advanced - Browsing -
Re-use Windows for launching shortcuts - seems to affect Firefox AND IE
- it looks like it got altered (without consent) while my ISP
(BT-Yahoo!)forced its unwanted customised IE browser on me during
installation of a wireless adapter.
