logging processes in XP Home

R

Robert M Jones

I am trying to troubleshoot a problem where urls/links fire up TWO
identical instances of my default Firefox browser. Is there anywhere I
can find/activate a log of what happens when I click on a shortcut or
url so I can see what processes are happening when I click on a url i an
email message or a taskbar url shortcut?
Task Manager doesn't really help here.
Win XP Home
Many thanks.

thanks - those look helpful. Problem has now gone away after I altered
File Types file association for URL from
"Opens with Shell Document Object and Control Library"
witht he Action of "rundll32.exe shdocvw.dll,OpenURL %l"

to using Firefox.exe

I did this in Admin account, but in User account the old File
Association settings still show (and can't be changed) - but problem has
gone away.

Find in the File "system.ini"
shell=explorer.exe

AND

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Window
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
shell=explorer.ex

To that end you must be logged on as local administrator. Also check the
value of 'NoFileAssociate'
