Unable to reinstall IE on XP Prof Sp2 - second posting

Leythos

I have tried the various solutions from the MS site and have failed to
find a way to reinstall IE 6. The current problem is that IE fails to
load the Windows Update Page (nothing at all) and I can't do a print
preview in IE and see anything, and clicking SEARCH in explorer brings
up the nice dogie, but there there are no search text boxes or anything
else.

This machine was working fine with all updates until about 1 week ago.
We have two machines doing the same thing, but can't tie it to anything.
The other machines (same units) are working fine in all manners.

I have tried the following:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=318378

http://www.theeldergeek.com/repair_reinstall_ie_and_oe_6.htm

http://windowsxp.mvps.org/IEFAQ.htm#Reinstall
rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 %windir%\inf
\ie.inf

The above attempt seems to try and reinstall, but can't fine iebw.exe (I
think that's the file name) and I can't find it on any computer.

Any help is appreciated.

Already done - this is the one that concerns me the most. The browser
just shows DONE and a blank page. There is no virus/trojan on the
system, three different AV scanners show clean, as does AdAware and
SpyBot.
IE>Tools>Internet Options>Advanced>Uncheck Enable third-party browser
extentions. Reboot

Already done.
Also delete the contents from here:-C\:Windows\System32\Spool\Printers

Already done.

Already done.
For Search problem,see:-
'Why doesn't Search work?'

Already done, and most of the things I could find on Google related to
it.

Any other ideas?

Yes, I've been doing this for about 20 years, and this one is kicking my
arse. I can't find any trace of anything on the system that shouldn't be
there to begin with.

It sits behind a real firewall, no attachments are permitted, and all
scripting is blocked at firewall from HTTP.

The only thing I can think of is SP2 and Citrix interface problem?

As a follow-up to my post, I got it working.

Here are the symptoms again:

Open IE, click on HELP, ABOUT - the box will not display the version
information, when you click the OK button it will not close -you must
close using the form close X button in the upper right.

When trying to do a Print Preview in IE it shows a blank page.

When opening Explorer, selecting Search, all you get the the left search
panel, but it doesn't contain anything. Just the little doggy.

I tried everything, could not fix it, until I hit upon a little known
issue for 98, ME, NT in Windows Scripting!

After I installed this and rebooted, everything started working again.
