IE freezes when opening new window

I click a link that opens a new browser window and the underlying window
freezes. I have to close with the task manager. I know this is a problem for
many. I searched this forum and have completed the following...

1) re-register all DLL files. msjava.dll was missing and I replaced it.
2) ran the SFC and everything came out good.
3) ran adware and found no malicious programs

I'm resigned to reinstalling IE. Problem! I found this command "rundll32.exe
setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 %windir%\inf\ie.inf" through
a help page. It requests IEXPLORER.EXE on SP 2 CD. I never had a CD. I
downloaded and installed SP2 automatically. I found an IE SP1 download, but
that says a later version is installed on my HDD and quits.

How can I get IE 6.0 SP2 installed? "or"
Where can I download WinXp SP2 w/IEXPLORER.EXE as a complete file that I can
reference on my HDD? I'm assuming I could burn it to CD and make my own SP2
CD correct?

thanks

I am having the same problem no pages with javascript will open nor will
links take me to the linked page. I did a search and also do not have the
msjava.dll. Where do you get this?

Java and JavaScript have nothing to do with each other.

Go to Tools | Internet Options | Advanced.
Check the box to Disable script debugging.
Uncheck the box to Display a notification about every script error.

Disable the Script Debugger in IE (Line 142) - Win XP

1. You might want to refresh your scripting engine:

or

Sometimes there's a corrupt file in the cache and one must go to Tools |
Internet Options and click Delete Files.

2a. Start>Run>Regsvr32 vbscript.dll

2b. Start>Run>Regsvr32 jscript.dll

(WinXP users who have problems with 2a and 2b, see
http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/answers_9.htm)

3. Re-register all DLLs listed in http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=281679

5a. IE Tools>Internet Options>Advanced>Browsing>Enable third-party browser
extensions (uncheck & reboot).

5b. Find the hijacker that caused 5a to be checked (or if none were checked,
check for hijackware anyway):
