Thanks Steve, I didnt delete anything apart from following the
instructions
in Franks email on this thread.

I'm not so worried about the messages - at least it forced a 'clean up'.

I will do what you suggest and leave the mail box open all day and night
if
thats what it will take.

My mail accounts seem fine and I am able to send and receive mail without
any problems (touching wood!)

How do I find out where it is recovering from in order to remove this
location?

In order to backup my mail such as it is now - do I just copy the windows
mail folder to a disk or the desktop?

It's looking where the new messages are stored and seeing if each message is
in its data base and if it is not, putting it in a recovered folder.

If you don't want to recover messages, move or rename the whole Windows Mail
folder in your User.

I'm getting this problem in my Inbox.
I tried moving all email from it so as to leave only the damaged message in
it, and then tried to delete the folder but it didn't work.
I also tried removing the sender from my contact list and even if I could do
that I could not delete the message.
I also closed the preview pane already - nothing.
I should also mention that this is happening with my @gmail account, and
that I am getting the message in Spanish because my Vista is in Spanish.
Thank you,

The best thing to do is ignore them.

If you are not willing to just ignore them, the only way is to delete both
copies of the database (which does not contain the messages, but only
references to them) and let WinMail rebuild it.
First close WinMail, then use Task Manager to make sure there are no
instances of it under applications or processes.
Then click Start | Search | Advanced Search
Check the box to include non-indexed, hidden and system files.
In the Name field type WindowsMail.MSMessageStore and click the Search
button.
It should show you two copies. Delete both of them and re-open WinMail.
WinMail will work in the background and recover all of the messages that are
really there.

Although some people have said they lost all messages doing this, WinMail
should recover them in the Recovered Messages folders.

I have tried everything that Frank Saunders suggest.....I can't ignore it
because everytime HP sends me an e-mail it gets stuck there.....soon I will
have an inbox full of ghost e-mails.....

Does Microsoft ever read these messages? do they not know that they have a
problem with Windows Mail? Do they not know how to fix it? I am beginning to
wish that I had bought a Apple!!

We don't know if Microsoft reps read the messages in this newsgroup.
In my estimation, they'd be foolish if they didn't, because they're getting
a wealth of feedback from actual users. However, MS has not responded
directly to any WM issues, either here or anywhere else.

Some of the WM bugs have been fixed in the newer mail client, WLM,
but MS has not seen fit to release those as hotfixes (patches) for WM.
I'm sure the future of WM will become clear by the time SP1 for
Vista is released, which Intel's CEO has stated will be Oct/Nov 2007.

Microsoft is a company and as such unable to read.
However, some Microsoft employees probably read here
occasionally on an informal basis.
do they not know that they have a
problem with Windows Mail?

I doubt they do not know.
Do they not know how to fix it?

If they were to put some resources behind WM they could
probably fix it but it seems clear that it doesn't figure in
the future product lineup and WLM is the annointed one.

Me too... I wish you had bought an Apple

Tried to do this, but system would not allow me to delete both copies of the
database. I received the following error message "Cannot complete as files
is open in another programme" System task master did not identify any
winmail as being open. Any other suggestions?

Press Ctrl-Shift-Esc and make sure that Windows Mail (WinMail.exe) is off
both on the Applications tab and on the Processes tab and try again.

However, first try this much cleaner fix from Microsoft:
Messages may be stuck in the Outbox when you use Windows Mail on a computer
that is running Windows Vista

I agree, Taxiguy, was just thinking the same thing myself! I'll try
downloading live as previously suggested. Thanks:)
