The message could not be deleted

This is getting absurd, when are they going to fix this? I have well over
twenty messages clogging up my inbox, 1 in my outbox and a bunch that will
not delete from my deleted folder. What is the problem? I used Outlook
Express for years without issues. I don't have a problem with software
bus,
they happen, but why is Microsoft not responding to this!!!!

I don't know but M$ are not denying they have abandoned WM and
are concentrating on WLM by the looks of things.
Amazingly M$ seem open to user input with respect to WLM
and have staff actively participating in dialogue about
how WLM should progress.

Try WLM http://get.live.com/betas/maildesktop_betas
and check the microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop forum.

No one is saying that WLM is perfect.
However, I've been following that newsgroup, and the percentage
of complaints stemming from data corruption are way less than
with WM.

Microsoft *has* responded, after a fashion.
Their project manager was quoted back in May as saying that
Windows Live Mail would be a replacement for Windows Mail.
All fixes and development work are going into Windows Live Mail.

If people don't want to read the writing on the wall, then it's their problem.

I'm getting this problem in my Inbox.
I tried moving all email from it so as to leave only the damaged message in
it, and then tried to delete the folder but it didn't work.
I also tried removing the sender from my contact list and even if I could do
that I could not delete the message.
I also closed the preview pane already - nothing.
I should also mention that this is happening with my @gmail account, and
that I am getting the message in Spanish because my Vista is in Spanish.
Thank you,

I followed Frank's instructions to the letter...all the messages I couldnt
delete from my Deleted folder and the one I had this morning in my Inbox were
restored perfectly and I was able to get rid of them once and for all. All
my messages appear to have been recovered successfully. Thank you Frank

After I sent this message - I moved all my messages from the recovered
folders back to my normal folders. Closed windows mail and reopened it - got
a message to say the database was being recovered then another message to say
that database was corrupt. the messages that I had recovered previously are
all gone. Not one single message is there. Help help!! please someone.

Thanks Gary, at the moment I am too scared to touch my keyboard for fear of
something else going wrong. However, this is what I have done
1. Uninstalled MacAfee
2. Checked what mail I did have left....sob..sniff.
3. Installed Avast - disabled email checker
4. Updated Windows Defender - it reported that it was out of date
5. Restarted Windows Mail - so far so good )
6. Imported my old OE mail successfully so have only, in effect, lost the
last 4 months mail

Only problem I have now is that the Recovering Message thingy keeps
happening every time I open Windows Mail so I now have 9 Recovered Message
folders since yesterday :'( If I can stop that from happening I will at
least be a tad happier than I am presently.

I did download WLM yesterday but havent been brave enough to install it
having read that there are some problems with that and I'm not sure that my
nerves could take another problem right now.

Any suggestions re the Recovering Messages folders would be appreciated.

This is why I tell people not to just delete the database files. I don't
know where its recovering from, so you will have to check that. Then you
may be able to remove the location in the message store from which it is
recovering. You can also leave WinMail open for several hours and see if
that will let it stabilize so it stops the recovery process.

Also search for *.eml and see if you can find the lost messages. They may
be there somewhere in the message store.

If you dumped McAfee, then you may need to remove and then add back your
mail accounts.

Thanks Steve, I didnt delete anything apart from following the instructions
in Franks email on this thread.

I'm not so worried about the messages - at least it forced a 'clean up'.

I will do what you suggest and leave the mail box open all day and night if
thats what it will take.

My mail accounts seem fine and I am able to send and receive mail without
any problems (touching wood!)

How do I find out where it is recovering from in order to remove this
location?

In order to backup my mail such as it is now - do I just copy the windows
mail folder to a disk or the desktop?

Will appreciate any and all help given

I have no suggestions regarding the recurring 'Recovering Messages'
problem, except to try Windows Live Mail. If after you try it you don't
like it, you can always go back to WM.

Well, todate I have 11 recovered messages folders..no one seems to know where
they come from or worse still how to get rid of them.

Thanks Gary re your suggestion that if I dont like WLM I can go back to WM -
like thats a great choice (

I see countless messages on the same vein - do all the people with this
problem find the solution or just live with the mess?

I am a disabled pensioner trying to eke out a living and depend on my mail
and messages so this has set me back 6 days and no solution....I do wish
someone would give me the absolute solution.

So did you try WLM?

Microsoft has not issued any official fixes for WM, and there is no
estimate as to when that might happen, so you might as well move on.
if it turns out you don't like WLM, there is always Outlook or Thunderbird.

I haven't tried WLM as yet as I've read conflicting reports on it but if I
knew how to save all the mail I did manage to recover and know that somehow
somewhere (sounds like a song) I could get it all back I would give it a go.
But you mention Outlook and I read that Outlook and WM couldnt reside on the
same machine???

Havent tried or looked at Thunderbird so would really appreciate more
details, if you dont mind, on Outlook and thunderbird....thanks. I will do
a search now though in the hopes of discovering something...

I have Outlook 2007, WM, WLM, and Thunderbird all happily
residing together on my PC. WLM is my main workhorse, but I run
the others occasionally just to test out different scenarios.

I have a message in windows live mail which I cannot delete so that makes
no
difference

Turn off email scanning in your anti-virus and any anti-spam program. If
you have Norton or McAfee uninstall them and replace them with Avast. Then
get WMUtil from www.oehelp.com

An update: Yayyyyyyy!! I finally got rid of the recovered messages folders
(all 15 of them). This is what I did:
1. Installed thunderbird and imported all my mail so I have what I managed
to save from the disaster of last week. Thunderbird is okay but different
(sorry mozilla)
2. Installed WLM - argghhh not sure if I would ever get used to that but it
did import my mail from WM but it didnt import my contacts so once again not
the perfect solution.
3. Went into the Windows Mail folder and deleted everything - the last 2
folders wouldnt delete (or didnt appear to) so I renamed them (just because)
4. Opened Winmail and the recovery process started from my renamed folders
(at last I knew where the recovery was coming from)
5. When this was completed I then used the 'move' facility to move
everything back to where it should be (took some time as I had lots of
folders)
6. Deleted through Winmail the now empty 'recovered folders'
7. Emptied the Deleted mail folder
8. Went back to Winmail and manually deleted the renamed folders (see above)
9. Took a peek inside the Local Folder and noticed another Recovered Folder
in there (very sneaky) so deleted that.
10. There were also a lot of edb** files with numbers which had been created
so I deleted them. Today there is one edb0001 file.

Opened and closed Winmail a number of times and a new day today and whoopee
no recovered folders and, touching wood and crossing everything, all appears
to be hunky dory.

Hopefully, unlike Arnie, I wont be back!! At least if push comes to shove I
have Thunderbird to fall back on.

Did you try a manual import? Click on Contacts (lower left corner of WLM),
on the Contacts toolbar click Show Menu, File, Import...
Also, if you have a Hotmail account, WLM will import your Hotmail contacts
automatically.

Yes, I did try to import manually but no go. I dont use hotmail or so very
seldom and I have 2 contacts on there so I could have captured them the old
way )

So far, so good with what I did with Winmail so I'm at least happier than I
was last week. Thanks for your help though Gary..
