Save target as... without using cache?

When downloading a file via right-click and Save target as... Internet
Explorer (IE6 as well as IE7) downloads the file first into a subfolder of
Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5. Then it copies the file from there to
the destination folder, showing 99% while copying. The copying takes time
depending on file size and harddisk speed. For large files (for example 100
MB) it can take a minute or more.

Does anybody see any sense in this behaviour?

How can I force IE to download a file directly to the destination?

Thanks,
Ralph

Hi Ralph,

You can't - files displayed by the browser are always downloaded to the
cache first.

Kind regards

Hi Hans,

Thank you for your answer.

It's a pity that nobody from the Microsoft IE development team responds.

I use Mozilla Firefox now. It saves directly to the destination folder which
saves me lots of time under certain circumstances (large download, slow hard
disk, slow antivirus software).
