Remote assistance

My friend has an ActionTec modem model # gt 704wg. They can Ping my
computer, but I can't Ping there's. Thus, I can't accept a Remote invitation
from them. However, they can from me. They've been told they need to open
Ports to allow me to see/Ping there computer. Thus, being able to use Remote
assistance. Unfortunately they have not been told by there IP provider on how
to do this.

Anyone have any ideas ?

I'm not familiar with the ActionTech modem but most are generally the same,
for example, using the Linsys modem you must access the modem from the
Internet Explorer Address bar by typing 192.168.1.1. This is the default
gateway and addresses the modem. You shyould be able to find the Gateway to
your modem by going to the Command Prompt and typing "ipconfig /all". This
should show you your IP address and Gateway to the modem. You may be asked
for a user name and/or password (your modem mfg should be able to help you
with this). Once in you need to navigate to the "Port Forwarding" area of
your modem and open port 3389 for remote desktop access. There may be a few
settings required to allow your computers IP address to pass through but it
should be straight forward from there.

I hope this can help some or at least get you started. If you call the modem
mfg and ask for tech support they should help you.
