Remote Access ****Bennett ***

The info at the website below got me a little further, but I am still not
connected. Now I get a pop up window with a yellow warning that says "A
Remote Assistance connection could not be established because the DNS name of
the remote computer could not be resolved." I couldn't find anything in the
website about that particular error. Any advice?

I have used Remote Assistant a couple of times successfully so I know the
basics. However, recently I have been trying to link up with my father's
computer using the e-mail invitation approach (we both have Dells with
Windows XP Home Edition). However, when I get his invitation, I cannot open
the attachment. I get a windows pop up window that starts out "Windows
cannot open this file". It asks me if I want to search the web, but even
then it can't get the file open. I have never had a problem connecting with
other computers. Is there something he should be doing at his end when he
creates the invitation? As I recall, there aren't many options when you send
out an invitation.

Make things easier on yourself and your father.

Get Teamviewer.

You install the full version
(http://www.teamviewer.com/download/TeamViewer_Setup.exe), have your father
download the Quick Support client
(http://www.teamviewer.com/download/TeamViewerQS.exe) and *SAVE* it to his
desktop.

Have your father run the QuickSupport client (TeamViewerQS) and give you the
User ID and password - leaving that window open.

You run the Full TeamViewer on your computer and put in the User ID your
father gave and select "Remote Support" and then click on "Connect to
Partner".

When asked - enter the password your father gave you.

Now that you are connected to your father, do whatever you need to your
father's PC and allow him to show you whatever he needs to show you, etc.
You can even configure his router using the remote machine, test/make the
proper settings changes for Remote Desktop/Remote Assistamnce - whatever you
feel like doing.
