Redemption.dll

Hi. I just upgraded my machine to Windows XP. Everything is working okay
except for Outlook. Every time I open Outlook I get the error messages 'The
add-in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\REDEMPTION.DLL could not be installed or loaded and
the second error is that SSREDEMPTION.DLL could not be installed or loaded.
What do I do? I found files of the same name in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32

Redemption.dll is a helper file for another add-in to deal with Outlook
security prompts. What add-ins do you have installed/uninstalled since you
got that prompt?

Redemption doesn't run on its own as it a support file for another add-in.
Anyway, you can disable it from being loaded through Tools-> Options-> tab
Other-> button Advanced Options-> button COM Add-Ins

Redemption is an ECF, so it would be disabled in the Add-In Manager dialog,
not COM Add-Ins.

Damn! Mixed it up again! And I thought I had actually remembered it right
this time. Maybe I should install an add-in that uses Redemption so I'll
never forget again! ;-)

Thanks Ken!

Where do I find the Add-in Manager dialog?

Same instructions as for COM Addins I gave in my reply in this thread; it's
the button next to it.
If you use Outlook 2007 use Tools-> Trust Center

Hi Roady,
thanks for the fast reply -- my problem is that Oulook crashes, won't open.
So I can't get there.

Not even in Outlook Safe Mode?
Start-> Run; outlook.exe /safe

I've tried to run it in safe mode, crashed again, and then it automatically
offered a repair utility, which ran -- and then outlook crashed.

The problem seems that an add-on, which I have not ever added, is partially
installed -- possibly when Outlook was installed. I've never used outlook
before -- but need a contact manager now . . . .

I guess I need to uninstall outlook and then reinstall it -- but looking for
the cd is not going to be fun. . . . .

if the mentioned DLL is still in place, maybe registering it helps. Goto to
the folder where the DLL is stored and create a TXT file. Write this into
it:

regsvr32 "Redemption.dll"

Save and close the file. Now rename it: change the file's extension from txt
to bat. Then double click the bat file to execute it.
