Programme not responding.

For the last couple of days I have been trying to use several different
programmes for burning audioDVDs. For whatever reason none of them work and
3 of them cause severe problems like my system freezing...but thats another
story.
My main query is to do with the function of TaskManager. It never seems
able to close down the programmes which are not responding and I have to
resort to the Power Off button. What is going on? Why do I have to resort to
the forbiden method?

If programs are not responding, then the OS is not functioning correctly and
you should run CHKDSK.

Go to My Computer --> right click C: --> Properties --> Tools --> Check Now.
In the submenu that appears next, checkmark the field "Automatically fix
system file errors" --> click Start. You'll get a message that the utility
can't be run because the disk can't be locked and whether you want to
schedule a check on the next reboot. Click "Yes" and then reboot.

There's also a utility you can download from MS called UPHClean which should
help:

You can read what it does here:

Thanks scrubber. I'd forgotten about using Chkdsk properly. There was an
earlier thread about it but everyone was trying to be so clever that they
failed to say how to access it. Lets hope that solves the problem.
