programme not responding

Recently i've noticed a lot of programmes i use will not
close down in windows XP when i've finished with them,
without using task manager. I've scanned my system with
an updated anti-virus application and it's all clear. Is
there anyone else having this problem?, or does anyone
know whats causing this.

I know you said you scanned with an av, but have you run spyware removal
tools, too? Spyware, while not picked up as viral by your av, can
interfere with proper computer operation, too. Get free programs Spybot
Search & Destroy (www.security.kolla.de) and Ad-aware
(www.lavasoftusa.com). Be sure to update the programs before running
them. If you've already done this, post back and let us know something
about your system, what changed between the time things worked and the
time they didn't, and what you've already done to troubleshoot.
