Please avoid Vista like the plague

Gary

How can you believe anything from someone who has no hands on experience
with vista and bases everything he knows on some article he says he read
somewhere. I guess he just believes everything he reads, well as long as its
something he thinks is bad about vista that is.

I'm sure he will come back with his jumping off a building post. As if a OS
isn't just a little more complex then that.

Ha! That's better, Bill, should you profer any, I will heed your
advice from now on! :))

To be fair to Alias, he is not really trolling (certainly compared to
some others anyway), although he is not pro-Vista, he seems to be
making reasonable points, rather than just MS-Bashing.

How do you know his name isn't Al Ias? He's in Spain, so that might be
short for Alonso Ias... ;-)

Not too smart neither .. hmm.

I'm sorry for you if this is a problem of yours.
Look, let me spell it out for you: if you and Alias dislike Windows, use
something else.

We don't need you to tell us that.
There are plenty of operating systems out there. And you
live in a free country.

Which is why we can post here all we like.
If your job is in a Windows shop, get another
job. No one is twisting your arm to use Windows.

Nah, Windows may not be my first choice always, but it does provide the
best job security! :)
But don't waste everyone's time with your hostility and needless
bickering .. life's too short for that nonsense.

LOL! Says the person who has shown themselves (through their own words
in this group) to be a hypocratical bigot.

I have read more than one article, chum. It's called doing informed
research before reaching in one's pocket and pulling out the cash.
I'm sure he will come back with his jumping off a building post. As if a OS
isn't just a little more complex then that.

All the more reason to get informed before making a buying decision.

Two hints on how I chose that screen name:

Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid
Masked and Anonymous.

Alias

Pat: "What should we call him?"

Billy: "Try calling him 'Alias'."

Alias: "That's what I'd do."

Pat (to Alias): "Who are you?"

Alias: "Now, that's a good question."

If you truly want to know my views, use Google Groups and search for my

ANYONE can use it without having to install it here:
http://www.windowsvistatestdrive.com/

How do you know they haven't tried that?

Looks like someone needs to spell check the video. Under "Safe" then
"Built-in Diagnostics" click on "View Video". The next screen that pops up,
the video's header says Buit-in. Anyway it's not true about anyone can use
it. I'm in Japan and it won't allow me to test drive because I'm out of the
geographical area. So much for that.

False premise. Not everyone that comes here already has Vista. Some are

Okay, I should have specified, most people don't really want unsolicited
advice, if they want someone's advice on something they will ask for it.

Plus, I said 'most', I don't recall saying 'everyone' in this forum has
Vista, but they are obviously at least interested in it and will ask for
opinions and/or advice about it.

Who says none of us have? I have a technet plus subscription through
work, and I have been checking Vista out. And even if some aren't, that
is no prerequisite to posting here.

Maybe those people in the "Lexus" forum should attain enough self control
to at least plonk the posts/posters they don't want to see?

How can I be a troll, I don't have a bridge to guard.

I was speaking mainly of the group that the OP seems to belong to, those
that have only read about Vista and made conclusions about it from (often)
biased reviewers that are only reporting what's wrong with Vista, and not
what's good about it.

Please, actually read and try to understand my post, not make blanket
assumptions. I'm a Linux 'geek', but because I work as a tech I need to
know all I can about the operating systems I'm going to run into, therefore
I've installed Vista on my main home computer. However, the machine I use
most is running Gentoo. I have a Windows XP system networked with the Vista
machine, and everything from DOS 6 to Windows ME, Win2000, and several
servers running in VMs. WHY? Because the best way to learn about something
is to use it, in my opinion.

That was my feeble attempt at a joke. You parroting what Bush says about
"cut and run" was amusing, though.

To say to wait or not to wait is not good advice. It is up to the person
trying to decide. Some situations warrant waiting, other situations better
advice would be to go out and get a copy today.

If the person is deciding for a mission critical business computer, a
thorough look before leaping is in order. One needs a bit of a business plan
making moves here. They do need to know that Vista is designed to be much
more secure than XP and that might be a great benefit to a business that
runs into malware problems and that they should make plan to move to Vista.

On the other hand, if the person really wants to get on with it, a back up
is sufficient (with a hardware / software check), and they can give Vista a
spin with the caveat that not all hardware / software manufacturers fully
support Vista yet. With people who are like this, why hold them back from
enjoying a substantially improved operating system? There's no reason not
too install Vista in such a situation.

Just because that is your opinion, it does not mean that that is the
only way to go about learning about something. You don't like what
people post, have the self control to ignore them or plonk their posts.

There is only one situation I think would warrant not waiting: repair
techs so they can help out the fools who rush out and buy it before it's
ready for prime time. Everyone else should wait until all the third
party programs and drivers are vista ready and for MS to iron out Vista
bugs.

The true security for operating a computer is not the OS but that what
rests on your shoulders, specifically between your ears.

Any other plan is foolhardy.
